Verses to Pray Through on The National Day of Prayer

Please join me for the National Day of Prayer.

Some of us spend a great deal of time prepping topics or verses to think through on this special day. Some people join online groups, in person rallies, or meet with their church to say specific, pin-pointed prayers throughout the day.

I would have to admit that up until recent, I was the one who would haphazardly join in as an after thought. This doesn’t mean that my prayers weren’t heard, but intentionality creates a better frame of heart and mind for my personal prayers of the day.

As I prepare for this year, I have decided to look for some specific verses and topics to pray over for our nation, communities and families. It is important to join together as a church and commit to lifting up our voices and requests to the Lord.

Matthew 18:19 NIV

Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.

I ask you to join me this week in prayer for our nation. Within these prayers, remember our brothers and sisters all over the world who need our encouragement and example. Pray for the oppressed nations and that their hearts turn to the Lord.

Hebrews 10:22

Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Ephesians 6:10-17

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,  and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Ephesians 3:20-21

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,  to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Psalm 139:13-14

For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

    I know that full well.

Proverbs 2:1-6

 My son, if you accept my words
    and store up my commands within you,

Matthew 5:13
