The Word is Active in All Seasons

A new season is fast approaching.

Have you been caught up in talking about seasons… weather, life events, family, work, retirement? Or maybe seasons in your faith-walk have been on your mind? I realized the other day that the word “season” has become a Christian buzz word to define where we are at and what we should be doing. I am guilty of using this word a lot.

As I think about this buzz word, I think about the actual season at hand. Fall is coming up quick and a change is in the air. Schedules are being tweaked, backpacks are being stuffed, activities are on the rise, and series are being written for church, Bible studies, youth events, and blog posts. We’re getting ready to buckle down for the season of regimented schedules.

But as we walk into the 6 o’clock hour of ladies studies or 7am men’s breakfast, why do we seem to need the season of pumpkin spice and apple cider to have a refresh, a revival of sorts, or a tweak in our walk? Why are the kid’s routine so important that it dictates Bible reading, studies, and conversations?  Isn’t the Bible for all seasons?

Hebrews 4:12 NIV

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

The Word is alive all days, all weather types, and all schedules. Routines don’t hinder God from being active in our lives, our attitudes are what hinder us from realizing the importance of being active in our faith. We are to take ownership of all of our days, not just the ones that scoot the kids out the door, or keep us hunkered down on a crisp day. Warm mugs of pumpkin spice next to our open Bibles make for a cute insta-picture, but cuteness doesn’t keep us grounded in the heat of summer or the dead of winter.

Let’s step out in our new rain boots and warm scarves not looking for truth at the local coffee shop meeting, but in confidence of our year-round, all-season grounding in truth.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

All the time, and in all places.

Hebrews 13:8 NIV

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Let us not grow weary in looking for excuses to stand still or to make changes. Let us look at the example of Christ, and keep moving forward in faith.

  1. Amen! We don’t always like what the Word is teaching us, though–it seems as if we’re not ready or equipped at times. But stepping out in faith and trusting that God knows best always helps me through the rough patches.

  2. Maryann,
Every season is a good season to be in God’s word. Sometimes I get lazy in the summer and there IS a big difference when I don’t start my day out in the living Word. Joining with you in seeking Him first and then let everything else follow.
    Blessings,
    Bev

  3. Yes. Let us remember that in our ever changing world we are linked in relationship with our unchanging Lord. Always remembering that no matter if we are up and down He is always with us.

    Thank you for the encouragement.

    Blessings,
