Hello and welcome! My name is Maryann Lorts and I am a daughter of the One True King. I need to remind myself of this truth every day. I get out of bed and wake to a tired world and see a need to be a light. My calling may be small among many, but by God’s will, I will run the race that He has placed before me and finish well.

Jesus didn't stop being Lord just because it was t Jesus didn't stop being Lord just because it was the Sabbath. We don't stop doing good just because _______ (fill in blank). God's will to build the kingdom, reach the lost, disciple truth doesn't take a break. There is injustice everywhere, all the time. Would we walk right past it just because it's a Sunday? A lot of people would walk past it any day of the week. As Christ followers we should address it every day. God doesn't stop being God because He rests on the Sabbath. Just because the Pharisees opinions and feelings and false interpretations lack approval of Jesus, He didn't stop doing good. We should take this as our example to never stop serving based off of approval of men.

Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.” Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent. He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus. Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed. When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon. Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him. For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him. Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.
Mark 3:1‭-‬12 NIV

God rested... That should be a sign to us that our God rested... That should be a sign to us that our bodies and minds need to do so as well. When the Lord ordained rest, we should obey with discernment. Because we live under grace through Jesus, the law doesn't bind us to the point of disobedience to the Spirit. He gives us common sense as well as the ability to discern what we need to be doing. Jesus is our best example and we should look to Him for all guidance. He will give us the rest we need and long for. He will help us to keep faith and practice true.

One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?” He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.
Mark 2:23‭-‬27 NIV

When we receive Christ, we receive the Holy Spirit When we receive Christ, we receive the Holy Spirit. We can not pour in something new and holy to a body that does not change. We are the Lord's temple therefore we should take on a new character as He pours into us. Our mindsets and goals should change. We should be eager to share the good news and to do the Lord's work. If we don't change, we have the wrong perception of faith.

Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them. But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day they will fast. “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.”
Mark 2:19‭-‬22 NIV

It's God's Word verses our own convictions. We sho It's God's Word verses our own convictions. We shouldn't allow our feelings to step in. God's Word and the Holy Spirit gives us discernment in truth. Let us not be like the Pharisees and twist Scripture to fancy our worldviews. Don't fall into the trap like so many modern day preachers, leaders and church members have. They have become Pharisees in our own time. They have fallen into a secular cycle that doesn't seem to have an end point. But God, He remains steady. He never changes, never fails, and never follows culture norms. Jesus came to save us from these failures that are caused by these cyclical thought patterns of religious prejudice. He came to give us healing truth and discernment. God reveals a counter culture truth that sets us sinners free. He sees us through.

As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him. While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Mark 2:14‭-‬17 NIV
