Searching For Advent

The season of Advent is coming.

The time of preparation and celebration is beckoning us to lighten our loads and dive into celebrations and hope. Excited children, empty pocket books and lists full of fun and service await us.

Then what follows is a crash. Down time after the hype and climax of all that we prepared for sends us to a low. We should be resting, taking a Sabbath in the season of hunkering down and resolutions.

Some of us are left searching. After the parties and the strings of lights, the wrappings and carols, and the disappointed gatherings and family arguments, are depleted spirits. Instead of depletion, they should say to us Advent doesn’t end on the day we celebrate the Messiah. Our searching should tell us that the second Advent is still coming, and we need to prepare not for a glittery holiday, but for the wedding feast.

Hebrews 11:1 ESV

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

The faith we keep through this time can and will carry us on, culminating in the things hoped for. Eternity sits on our doorsteps and He will open it up for those who believe.  He is on His way. Make way for Him. The King is coming and we must prepare His bride.

This coming season, in all of its excited ups and dreadful downs, we need to make intentional time to worship the Lord for all that He was, is and will be. Carry that forever and remember all that He has done for us.

Hebrews 9:28

So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

As we prepare our hearts and minds, let’s start now and take it forward until the day we hit those gates into the kingdom. Keep our eyes, hearts and minds on the watch, forward focused. Keep the celebration going and the Advent on the forefront. It is for all days until the Lord comes to take us to the feast. Praise the Lord for His faithfulness.
