Nothing is Too Mundane for the Lord

There’s nothing exceptional about you.

You’re just a common person living the common life. A man who works a bland job, to pay for his plain house in his cookie cutter sub-division, for his dull family is all that you are. A stay-at-home mom living through her children’s achievements, who wears trendy yoga pants with a not so trendy body and watches home improvement shows to get through your tiresome life is all that you seem to strive for.

A lot of nothingness seems to follow you, like most other people in the world. You offer nothing remarkable so why endeavor for more?

Many of us fall into this trap, thinking we are mere wall flowers in the great big picture of life. Christians and non-Christians alike look the same, work the same, and wear the same yoga pants in hopes of being part of something grand when instead the elite tell us that we are not. Because we are like everyone else, we are just simple.

2 Corinthians 1:12 ESV

For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you.

You see, the simple life of a Christian seems confining, when in fact we are blessed beyond all measure. We have freedoms unlike any other. Just because we live in a cul-de-sac with stay at home moms sipping coffee at midday and husbands who work in cubicles doesn’t mean we don’t have a glorious calling from the Lord. All work is meant for His glory, even the simple kind that stays in quiet homes, on quiet streets and with quiet attitudes.

1 Timothy 6:6-8

Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.

We are called to be content with what we have. Some of us have opportunity to go beyond our comfort zones to work for the Lord. Others are called to disciple in their homes or in the workplace. No work is too mundane when working for the Lord.

We can be bold in seeking the Lord while living a gentle life. He will provide for us according to His will, His purpose and His kingdom. Don’t feel less because other’s have more. We are conquerors because of Him.

  1. What an important reminder! This has been a theme in my life recently, and this is a beautifully put expression of what God has been putting on my heart 🙂 Thank you!

  2. Love this simple but powerful message. You will need to repeat this several times, I am sure. Everything about this age goes against the simple life and a heart filled with contentment. Continue to remind all of us what is important. God bless.
