You pick up a handful of sand. Try as you might, it eventually sifts through your fingers as it falls to the wind.
Gritty and salty, you try again. This time you try to shake it in bottle of water, filling the clear liquid with murkiness and specks of colored glass. The sunlight sparkles through the sandy mixtures until you fail again. All tiny particles fall to the bottom and you’re left with layers instead of continuity.
God’s Word isn’t like sifting sand, always changing with random murkiness and an occaisional sparkling jewel in the mix. God’s Word has stood the test of time, and has been steadfast through the history of His creation.
The grass withers and the flowers fade,
but the word of our God endures forever.
Isaiah 40:8 NIV
Generations have fought for truth and for dignity without faith.
They have failed to seek the faithfulness of the Lord proven through His written and inspired Word. They have failed to see the endurance of the Lord’s people from the beginning of time.
We can choose to be the sand and fall through the cracks without hope of eternity. Fun seems to be in tossing care to the wind to see where culture takes us. What kind of ride do you think we will find ourselves on in doing this? Freedom and feel-good moments may come to mind, while never giving mind to repercussions of faithlessness, of following the idol of self.
People all want the same thing. They want to find something to believe in, even if it’s self. Self falters, let’s us down, and gets old. Self eventually fades to nothingness without hope for eternity. The Lord’s Word promises hope forever in the Lord Jesus who stands the test of time as our righteous king.
Let our prayer be the same as we find in Psalms. Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. 119:89
Coming together with generations before us to worship the Lord is creating a bond that sand cannot hold. We can’t sift it out. It creates a thread throughout all time and culminates in a glorious forever kingdom. Hold tight to this forever Word, and live with the promises that the Lord has poured forth in love to His people.
