As one hits the age of forty years wise, you may have to fight through magazine covers of twenty-somethings that are clad in bikinis and bare mid-drifts, football games with pom-pom holding models, and insta-beauty girls across social media screaming, “We’re young, we’re pretty, we’re what you’re not!”
Yes, yes, I know, skinny, bikinis, and insta-anything doesn’t define beauty. We are, by definition, perfection if we are indeed made in the image of God. Our flaws are only temporary and our aging bodies all have the stories that the young do not. There is nothing to compare. Then why do we do so?
I think it’s time that those of us who struggle with self-worth issues and with the thoughts of mid-life knocking on our doors to discover the meaning of true beauty and what defines our worth.
