Hello and welcome! My name is Maryann Lorts and I am a daughter of the One True King. I need to remind myself of this truth every day. I get out of bed and wake to a tired world and see a need to be a light. My calling may be small among many, but by God’s will, I will run the race that He has placed before me and finish well.

We need God. In trying times, we often call on Him We need God. In trying times, we often call on Him for help and direction. Buy often, that is the only time we go to Him. We need God all the time, not just when we're overwhelmed. We will always be lacking if we rely on ourselves or others. It's God who has all that we need. Even in areas of our lives that we have total confidence in, we will never be fully efficient without the Lord. He gives wisdom and strength.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.
1 Corinthians 1:18‭-‬21 NIV

Jesus has mighty power. Demons had fallen before h Jesus has mighty power. Demons had fallen before him, begging not to be harmed. Legions of evil spirits are no match for him. As our Savior, in Him we have nothing to fear. We can take comfort in that he's in full control.

As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.
Mark 5:18‭-‬20 NIV

It's Lent Day 17. Have you been learning something It's Lent Day 17. Have you been learning something new? Confirming something old?
The disciples weren't asking for help but hollering at Jesus for sleeping through a storm.... "Hey, Jesus, do you even care?" They weren't thinking of faith or healing or sharing the good news... They were thinking that they may not survive this storm. They felt out of control before they called Him out, thinking he'd probably feel out of control as well...but, no. He rebuked the storm and then rebuked them. He wanted them to see that if they believed in the Son of God, their faith could hold them tight through the storm...that they could call upon Jesus to calm their internal squalls instead being petrified by the outer deluge.
We should seek his help in all areas of life at all times no matter the trial. Why wait until we're stuck in a hurricane before seeking his guidance and help? His power and authority can calm the fiercest storm. We shouldn't dismiss him until we're desperate, but seek him in all things.

A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
Mark 4:37‭-‬41 NIV

The lamp is placed in a space so that it illuminat The lamp is placed in a space so that it illuminates the room. God has given us an internal light to illuminate others to His truth. This light can drive out darkness while lighting a path that serves the Lord.
We should never hide our lights for the Lord but let it shine even when we feel depleted.

He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”
Mark 4:21‭-‬23‭
