Join Me for Book Club
I am very excited to be leading a great discussion on Barbara Hughes’ book Disciplines of a Godly Woman. You will find my discussion over at Women’s Bible Cafe Book Club. It is a closed Facebook group, so you must request to join. The book club discusses several topics such as fictional reads, biographies, devotional content, leadership, and other non-fiction.
Once a week we will be discussing the meaning of what Godly discipline looks like in the life of a woman, and engage each other’s thoughts and perceptions on the topic. We will be using discussion questions from the book as well as some that I have found interesting as I have been reading.
From my introduction post in the club, I would like to give a bit more insight to our discussion: The book will engage us in the tough topic of, you guessed it, discipline. As much as we would like to cultivate a life of spiritual discipline, we often don’t know where to start or sometimes we get push-back from our modern-day thought processes on the topic.
Each week we will have a suggested reading schedule, but by all means, please read at your own pace. We will gather together under a specified photo in the above linked group, which will be posted once a week. There will be several discussion questions from the author and we will also engage with our own questions. You can come and answer questions at your convenience throughout the week.
Today I would like to just give you some Scripture reading about Godly discipline. Please then consider the question that I have posted following the reading.
Our author references 1 Timothy 4:7-8 as it applies to discipline:
Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. NIV
Here is a question to ponder. What might you be afraid of when it comes to diving into a disciplined life based off of God’s design?
