Have we forgotten?
We seek and wade through the depths of life, but we leave the safety net behind while trying to tread with weights dangling from our ankles.
People often say that we just need to dive in, safety nets are for cowards. Non-believers wouldn’t think to trust the Lord, and lazy Christians would dismiss looking for guidance. You just have to sink or swim, people.
This is not how it’s suppose to be. God didn’t create us to go at life blindly or to be self-sufficient. He reminds us over and over again in His Word that we are not islands. In this, we need to intentionally seek His truth and guidance by His Spirit.
God’s Word reminds us of who we are, where we have been and where we are going. We see those who have gone before us and the faithfulness of the Lord upholding them. These words are written so that we may not only believe, but also to be encouraged in truth and for our future.
Isaiah 41:8-13
“But you, Israel, my servant,
Jacob, whom I have chosen,
you descendants of Abraham my friend,
I took you from the ends of the earth,
from its farthest corners I called you.
I said, ‘You are my servant’;
I have chosen you and have not rejected you.
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
“All who rage against you
will surely be ashamed and disgraced;
those who oppose you
will be as nothing and perish.
Though you search for your enemies,
you will not find them.
Those who wage war against you
will be as nothing at all.
For I am the Lord your God
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you…”
He says not to fear…and fear lives.
He says He is with us…and we don’t believe.
He says to not be dismayed…yet we shutter.
He says He will strengthen us…yet we cower.
He says He will help us…but we are prideful.
His righteous hand will uphold us…yet we fail to keep our faith focused.
We are failing in our forgetfulness while focused on culture and lies. Wedges are grown by politics and strife.
We forget truth and history, and how our Father God’s love has survived the onslaught of time. We scoff at the importance of statutes that allow for righteous living and how the Spirit brings us to sanctification. We mock the dying loyalty that has fought for liberty and fortitude for those living in freedom.
We fist pump to slogans and promise to never forget. In that, faith, liberty, freedom and truth seem fleeting.
Don’t let your freedom flee. Remember the Lord. Be intentional in your faith. Laziness has no place in these trying days. Christian, be strong and move forward in God’s promises.
